2013 - Tribute Garden for Dr. Allen Matthias

Undergraduate student Diana Vercillo organized a gardening project to clean up and beautify the landscapes surrounding Saguaro Hall as a tribute to Dr. Allen Mathias. Many plants were installed including a lovely Marisousa willardiana (palo blanco) tree. 

The arboretum contributed a bronze plaque to name the tree for Dr. Mathias. Diana then organized an event in which friends and family of Dr. Mathias were invited to tour the new landscape, learn about the plants and share memories of Allen.
